“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you… For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” – Isaiah 43:2, 3
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey in big ways and small ways, both inside and outside our church. We are praying for you and are with you. Let us know how we can help. Many have asked how you can help.
The scope of flooding in our area means that we will be rebuilding for a long time. Resources will be needed. In response to the massive need, we encourage people to give, both to reputable ministries and organizations as well as to our local benevolence fund.
Benevolence Fund: our deacons will be assessing and meeting needs both within and outside our church. All funds collected will go to families in need locally.
To give to our benevolence fund, click here, go to the “Select a Fund” pull down menu and select “Benevolence.” In the Memo line write “Hurricane Harvey Relief.” You can also write a check to “New Life CRC” and write “Hurricane Harvey/Benevolence” in the memo line. You can send the check to New Life CRC, 2050 FM 2920, Spring, TX 77388. Attn: Deacons.
NOTE: The most important need we have right now if money. Please see World Renew’s note about donations. “The overwhelming generosity of the public is greatly appreciated, however, the influx of donated items exceeds the needs of the impacted communities at this time. Therefore, the State of Texas is asking that you please DO NOT donate unsolicited goods such as used clothing, miscellaneous household items, medicine, or perishable foodstuffs at this time.”
There will be many ways to volunteer. There are short term clean up projects for folks who have experienced flooding. Long term there will be needs we still have not identified.
We will keep an updated list of opportunities on our church Facebook page.
If you are from out of town and would like to send a team to volunteer, please contact us (firstname.lastname@example.org / 281-353-5935) and we will do our best to connect you with projects on the ground meeting real needs. We are working with World Renew Disaster Response Services to coordinate work teams to come down and help.
Finally, here is Houston there is a rich network of churches and ministries working together for the same cause. Here are two networks that are very helpful:
